Brewing winter blessings

Winter magic is one of my specialities, perhaps secondary to my birth right of autumn (I am a September sun baby).

I guess you could say I enjoy the ‘challenge’ of brewing light in the dark.

Early winter is cold, harsh and dry, while mid to later winter can become damp and heavy from an ayurvedic perspective. This energy can be depleting and stagnating, taking a toll on immunity, digestion and mood.

I brew winter blessings daily and nightly to keep my energy bright and flowing, while moving slowly and with ease. Candlelight instead of electricity, layers of sweater and blanket, hot herbal baths are just a few of my favorite ways to settle into the season. My immunity tea is always on standby.

Immunity Tea: Kadha

Kadha is traditional medicinal tea using similar ingredients as chai and golden milk. It’s easy to prepare, tastes divine and supports your immunity through the harsh colder seasons. To prepare: blend 1/2 tsp each of cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, dried ginger, a pinch of cloves and a bay leaf. Boil in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes, then strain, cool and sip.
